Product Description

This is a mid-1960s vintage Leblanc Paris professional wood bass clarinet with keywork to low Eb, serial number 8309. This instrument was just overhauled in our repair shop and has all new pads and material. It has been precisely adjusted and ships in perfect playing shape.

This is a fantastic instrument for advancing students and pro players seeking a grenadilla wood bass clarinet without breaking the bank. With our fresh repad/overhaul, it will be playing great for years to come. In addition to the new pads, we performed a couple repairs. There was one small crack in the upper part of the top joint which went through the top-most tone hole. We repaired the crack (2 pins) and replaced that tone hole. There was also a crack in the bottom tenon of that joint, so we fixed it, reinforced it with a carbon fiber band (under the tenon cork) and then capped it with a metal ring on the tenon, to “future proof” it. It'll hold for the long haul. A previous owner etched some identifying marks on the bell and bottom joint, but that is purely cosmetic.

This clarinet plays with a deep, robust sound and a strong core. It takes your air well with just the right amount of positive resistance, giving you something to push against, but never feels inhibiting or stuffy. Very full tone in all registers. This is a fun horn to play and great for all players, from serious clarinetists to doublers alike.
