BRAND NEW PADS - PLATEAU KEYS - 70s Vintage
Product Description
Here we have a more rare find, a 1975 Selmer Paris Eb alto clarinet with nickel plated plateaued keys, serial number Y9503. This clarinet is in standard grenadilla wood with standard key work down to Eb. The plateau keys are the most intriguing part of this instrument as many models from other brands have around 4 key rings while this one has NONE.

Physically, this alto clarinet is in amazing condition, only a few scratches on the exterior, the keys have very little wear through the nickel, and most importantly no cracks! All pads, corks, felts, and other materials have been replaced from a full overhaul by Josh Creekmore.

Sonically, this clarinet plays with a full powerful character in the lowest, chalumeau register, the clarion register speaks with a singing quality and projects well. The altissimo sounds like a mere extension of the clarion register so this clarinet has a great homogeneous sound for most of the range. This is typical for 70s vintage Selmer Paris clarinets, the bore overall is more narrow compared to Selmer's earlier models.

Players who seek a solution to the awkward spacing of keys on alto clarinets will enjoy this one as it is playing great and the plateau keys seal with ease. This instrument ships in a one piece body case, although it has the body separated in two joints.
